"We are using the drive and the production guy is very excited about it. In fact it was very difficult getting him out of the studio. I think it’s going to be a great asset to our productions."
Russell Pope , Operations Manager - KAYA FM/Johannesburg, South Africa |

It rocks! I really do like this. The accessibility is awesome. The music rocks and I've already used some sfx. The setup was really easy too. We've already gotten it networked to all workstations.
The only bad thing to come from this is, now i have to inventory all discs from those other guys and ship them back!!

Audio Architecture was already my preferred music library, for both quality and variety... now that it's on the hard drive, it's so much quicker to find exactly the track I need. Clients like it, too - they don't have to wait around while I dig through piles of cds. Thank you, TM Studios!

Here's what I think:
- It's very helpful to have the entire library at my finger tips. You have taken the time (and thought) to organize the titles in a very production friendly manner.
- I have found TM Studios to always be on the cutting edge of production and our specific needs. Your new Hard Drive is a must have for busy production directors like me.
- The AA Hard Drive has done wonders for my time management. It has turned my CD copies of AA into great coasters too :)

tmc:drive FAQ
Why is getting a library on hard drive better than audio CDs and CD-ROMs?
Have you ever spent so much time searching through CDs that your initial idea died before getting a chance to start? Have you ever gone to pull a disc and found it missing because someone didn't return it or it had been misplaced? Have you tried copying each CD-ROM into a folder onto your hard drive and then realized you still have to look in 10 different folders to audition the rock tracks?
Getting your library on
a tmc:drive puts your entire library in one place and makes it
instantly available to you in a well-organized, simple system
of folders. Just open a folder, audition a file, import (or copy)
it into your session and mix. Think. Click. Produce.
Can the hard drive be shared with other
computers or run from a central network?
The simple answer is yes.
Once the hard drive is installed on one computer it may be shared
directly with another computer in your workgroup. The drives can
also be installed on a network and made accessible like another
network drive.
Are the drives compatible with MAC OS X?
Yes. These drives are compatible with both Windows XP and Mac OS X. We just need to know
if it's a Mac system so that we can format the hard drive for
OS X. The update CD-ROM, and the program that automates the update
process, will work for MAC OS X or Windows XP.
If I get Audio Architecture and Imagio will they come on
the same drive?
They can, or we can put them
on separate drives. There may be an extra charge for the 2nd
drive.
How does the update process work when new
material is released?
Each time there is a new
release for the library you will receive a CD-ROM (In the case
of Imagio you will receive 3 CD-ROMs). There is a program on
the disc that automates the process of copying your new material
to the hard drive. You put the disc in the CD-ROM drive, run
the program "Update_HD_PC" (or Update_HD_MAC for Mac
OS X), follow the prompts on the screen and in a few minutes your
update is installed on your hard drive. As an added convenience,
the program will also put a duplicate copy of all your new material
in folder called "NEW_STUFF". That makes it easy
to review the most recent additions to your library.
What happens if updates make me run out
of space on the drive?
The hard drives are large
enough to handle all of the updates for the term of the library
contract. Even with both libraries on one drive.
How is the information organized?
The audio is organized into
Category folders on the hard drive. Music is divided into folders
like Rock, Jazz, Drama, Latin, etc
FX and Sweeper/Stager
elements are divided into separate folders with their own categories
like Hits_Stabs, Sweeps, Comedy_Novelty, Drama, etc
The
file names themselves also tell you if it's Music, FX or Sweeper/Stager,
what the title is. If it's music, it will also give mix, key
and tempo information.
How are the audio files named?
All audio files have a consistent
naming convention that identifies them as music, sweeper/stagers,
or FX. They also include the title and other information about
mix type and timing. Here's an example file:
M_TimeRunningOut_128Bm_15A.wav
M = tells you it's music
Title = TimeRunningOut
BPM = tempo in beats per minute (128)
Key = musical key (Bm)
Time = track timing(60; 30; 10, etc...)
Mix Version = (A is the full mix; B is the alternate mix, L1-L2-L3
are Layer mixes, PE is production element)
Sweeper/Stager files start
with "S_", FX files start with "F_".
Is there a search function?
The design of the category
folders is the search function. We basically put
things where you would expect to find them based on the folder
names. If, however, anyone still feels the need to search through
data, we do provide an Excel database with all of the track description
data, the categories and the audio filenames cross-referenced.
What size is the hard drive?
The drives we are using
currently are 250 gig. However that may change based availability
in the future.
What brand is the hard drive?
The hard drives we are using
currently are Western Digital. However, that could always change
based on availability and/or reliability in the future.
Will the drives work with a USB connection?
Yes. The drives are USB
2 compatible devices.
Will the drives work with a Firewire connection?
Yes. The drives are both
USB and Firewire compatible devices.
How long is the turnaround time for getting
Audio Architecture or Imagio on hard drive?
Allow one week plus shipping
days.
